How long have you been with your company and in the industry?

I have been with Waldrop for one and a half years. I’ve been in the industry for two and a half years.  

How did you get started in the industry?

After I graduated high school, I achieved an associate degree in industrial electronics. I was looking forward to my technical career, but unfortunately each company I interviewed with wanted someone with experience. I ended up in the warehousing and distribution industry, which worked out well for almost 15 years. During this time, I often thought about the HVAC field and eventually, I had an opportunity to go back to school and earn my HVAC and refrigeration certificate.

Where are you from?

I was raised in Abbeville, AL and moved to South Carolina when I was 23.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my kids and being outdoors. I enjoy camping, fishing, hunting, or just an occasional ride on a back road.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

Well, I have to start with all my coworkers. We have an excellent team and I enjoy working with all of them. Employee morale and workplace atmosphere says a lot about a company and it’s really nice to work somewhere you are always happy to be. My career is very self-rewarding. I love going place to place, working with different customers, and knowing at the end of the day that I have made people happy.

How does Nexstar help you do your job?

It helps to build a better, more professional relationship with the customer by showing you ways to work with them and provide them different options that they want and understand. This approach helps the customer feel in control and enables them to make a purchase they are happy with. It also does not come across as a sales pitch. It’s simply providing options to take care of the customer’s needs.

Building this type of relationship gives the customer a certain level of trust and the peace of mind that they’ve selected the appropriate company as their provider.

Do you have any amusing customer stories?

A customer called in and had an issue with her emergency heat staying on all the time. We arrived and she was very illustrative when she explained her problem. She explained her morning routine and told us as she walked across the room, a little light (as she pointed at the thermostat) caught her eye and it hasn’t gone off yet! My coworker walked over and said, “Ma’am your thermostat is set to emergency heat only.” Her mouth dropped and her head spun right around to her husband. She said, “Have you touched this thermostat again?” He sat in the chair with a deer in the headlights look.  There wasn’t much we could do to help him get out of that one.
