How long have you been with your company and in the industry?

I have just celebrated my one year anniversary with Aztec Plumbing at the beginning of May, and I have been a full-time plumber for approximately 16 years.

How did you get started in the industry?

As with several of the service technicians here at Aztec Plumbing, I am a multi-generation plumber.  My grandfather had a successful plumbing company based out of northern Kentucky, which serviced the greater Cincinnati area from the mid 1950s to the early 1980s. My father had a small shop here in Fort Myers, Florida from 1987 until his retirement in 2005. I then ran the business until 2010.

My first paying plumbing job was at age eight, holding a trench open until the plumbing inspector could inspect the sewer tie-in. From then on, I was a helper/plumber on weekends and school breaks through college.

Where are you from?

Originally I am from Cincinnati, OH but moved down here with the family at a young age.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I am a husband and father of three: my daughters Madi, age 12, and Cassi, age 9, and my son, Dom age 3 (fourth-generation plumber?). As such, my primary after work focus is my family. For enjoyment we go to the local beaches quite frequently and theme parks. This year’s annual pass is for Busch Gardens Tampa.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

As a whole, I love being a service plumber. I get to come to a person’s home who is having a problem and find solutions that make them happy. Not to mention there is the pride in being a tradesman and earning a good living with my hands and mind.

How does Nexstar help you do your job?

At Aztec Plumbing, if a technician makes it into the service division we already know they have the technical skills to get most any plumbing problem fixed. What Nexstar training gives us are the people skills that let us address not just the customer’s obvious needs, but more importantly their wants.

Learning the Service System is an ongoing process. Thankfully our service manager, Chris Tedesco, embraces this concept with weekly training meetings that help us hone our skills and refresh us on those we may have become lax with. This helps us from falling into comfortable ruts and keeps our customers wants and needs in focus.
