This month, we sat down with Marketing Coach Jodi Hecimovich to learn about what brought her to Nexstar two years ago, find out about her career journey, and discover what she’s passionate about.

Q: What brought you to Nexstar?
A: Nexstar is where I started working with the trades! I started here in 2022, and you can thank Marketing Coach James Braasch for that – he posted the job posting for my current job on LinkedIn when they were hiring. Once I learned more about Nexstar, the position, and company culture through the interview process, I was ALL IN!

Q: Is there someone or something who inspired your journey into the trades?
A: I liked the trades for two reasons. First, I worked on trade accounts at advertising agencies early in my career, so I had a little understanding of them. I also worked in food marketing for much of my career with franchisees; our membership base is very similar to the franchise environment, as they’re both service-oriented businesses.

Q: What are some of the career milestones that have been important in guiding you to your role as a coach?
A: Really, all of my prior jobs have gotten me to where I’m at now. I strategically sought out different areas of marketing with each role I was in. This helped make me more well-rounded in all facets of marketing. The one milestone that really helped catapult me in marketing was my time at DQ (Dairy Queen) International as a Senior Product/Brand Marketing Manager, as it helped me to understand the strategic side of building plans. It also helped me understand how assessing your situation, doing research on current and past initiatives, and understanding your competitive set can really help you build your plan.

Q: What does your typical day look like as a coach?
A: My days typically consist of reviewing emails from the night before and responding, coaching calls, and reaching out to other coaches and members that I haven’t engaged with. Of course, there’s always lots of reading to do on trends and other marketing topics.

Q: What’s the best part of your job and why?
A: The members and my team members are both fantastic and help me learn every day.

Q: What’s one of your greatest superpowers? Tell us a little about it.
A: I would say that observation is one of my greatest superpowers. I may not always may be the most talkative in a group, or have x-ray eyes, but I do have a good eye for detail, and I am good at taking a step back and analyzing a situation.

Q: What do you like to do to relax when you’re not at work?
A: I usually like to spend time with my family and our pup, Tillie. It could be taking a road trip, shopping, or spending time in the yard, either gardening or doing agility training with Tillie.

Q: What are some of your passions?
A: I love walking, tennis, community service, and gardening – we have a huge garden each year! I also love taking road trips, and I have a passion for training, as I’m a lifelong learner.
