Warm Hearts, Cozy Coats – Roger That!
Here’s a giving story that has warmed many hearts already this winter thanks to an inspiring crew that rallied to help make things a little cozier for their community.
This generous giving initiative began in December. Winter temperatures dipped sharply along the East Coast creating an urgent need for warm clothing donations in the Manassas, VA community. Nexstar member My Plumber Plus and Nexstar Strategic Partner Work With Your Handz proactively stepped up to launch a coat drive to benefit their neighbors.
Their big-hearted efforts resulted in the collection and donation of over 100 coats to the House of Mercy, a local organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in need of a helping hand. It was an exciting day as employees from both companies – along with Roger, the My Plumber Plus mascot –made a special delivery to the House of Mercy.
“At My Plumber Plus, we understand that community is everything,” said Phil Hopkins, Director of Operations. “Our participation in the coat drive reflects our commitment to giving back and supporting those we serve. Here at My Plumber Plus, we believe everyone deserves warmth and comfort; we’re honored to play a small role in making that happen.”
The House of Mercy provides food, clothing, and emergency assistance to those experiencing hardship. This year, their supply of donated coats was running low, making this contribution even more significant. “We can now ensure families receive warmth and comfort,” explained Sophia Crooks, Director of Programs at House of Mercy. “The support means so much, and together, we are making a meaningful, lasting impact.”
For Work with Your Handz, the initiative went beyond the donations. “We’re always looking for meaningful ways to make a difference,” said Kelly Rowlett Presgrave, President and CEO. “Partnering with My Plumber Plus and House of Mercy was an incredible opportunity to give back, and we were blown away by the generosity of everyone who contributed. Our own closets were overflowing with coats, and it was such an early and COLD winter; the timing was serendipitous.” Kelly went on to explain that her son volunteers with House of Mercy and admires their good work.
